'Embrace' by Carmel Doherty

Title: Embrace; Medium: mixed; Price: €2,300.

Hold me tight
Like this – yes! yes!
Tighter! Tighter!
– but not so tight
I cannot breathe

You are my light
As hope comes crashing in
Through the rubble and the smoke
Of that dishevelled self
I feel was me

The me I always am
When I am pulled asunder
By your wish to be
My one and only

Hold me tight
– but not so tight
That I’m not me!
