Spider
What an expenditure of precious silk
As you gracefully abseil from the ceiling
Onto the helipad of my watch-face.
You land with such delicacy
I’d never have noticed your touch.
But instead I see you
Leaving my arm, and moving
Closer to my head, to salute me kindly —
Beneficent benediction —
Before straying away
On your arachnidan errands,
Leaving only your silken thread,
With its incredible tensile strength,
Iridescently shining and swaying
Between myself and the ceiling.
