Ennis Seated Sculpture Trail 1998 came as a result of the success of Ennis Riverwalk Sculpture Trail in 1997. Josie Croft, Diarmuid Twohigk, Shane Gilmore and Fiona Dwyer, were the participating sculptors. All of the provisions from the previous sculpture exhibition were still in place, site location for carving the sculptures, the machinery was still available, all that changed was the funding for the stone, the assistants for carving the stone, the location for the new sculptures was now going to be in the main streets of the town and payment for the artists and stone was from different business interests.
“Clara” was carved by me as part of the Ennis Seated Sculpture Trail in 1998. The subject matter for this piece was based on my then young daughter Clara, the finish on the stone is polished limestone. I wanted the stone to have a feel as if it was carved naturally by water erosion.
